Gas-turbine power unit of Mogilev CHPP-1 - 5 years of efficient operation

4 January 2022

Gas-turbine power unit was commissioned on December 29, 2016. Thus, the upgrade of the Mogilev CHPP-1, one of the first power plants in Belorussia and the oldest in the Mogilev Region, was completed.

Large-scale first stage of reconstruction of the MCHPP-1 with use combined-cycle technologies was carried out almost two and a half years. As part of the project, four obsolete steam boilers (st. No. 1-4) were dismantled, new auxiliary electrical and heat engineering equipment was installed, 110/10/6 kV substation was constructed with a closed switchgear and two power transformers of 40 MVA each.

On the eve of 2017 there is took place launch of gas turbine LM2500+ (GE) with a rated electrical capacity of 26.5 MW and waste-heat boiler К-37/3.9-346 (NPO BZKO) with a steam capacity of 37 ton / h. The generating equipment in cogeneration mode was integrated into existing process flow scheme of power plant with discharge of steam into the overall line.

The LM2500 range of GE turbines is the leader in the capacity segment of 20 … 35 MW. They are the most reliable in their class of gas turbine units and one of the most demanded – today, there are over the 2,5 thousand LM2500 GTU operating in the world, which have worked more than 100 million hours with 99.5% reliability. They are characterized by their compactness, ease of maintenance, record-breaking startup rapidity (5 min), fuel effectiveness and high efficiency in a simple cycle (up to 39.5%).

To feeding quality fuel to the gas-turbine power unit, the facility was equipped with special process complex – ENERGAS gas treatment system which comprises a compressor station of two package booster units, a preliminary gas filtration unit, and an underground drainage tank for condensate gathering.

The first stage of MCHPP-1 reconstruction has ensured additional power generation 157.6 million kWh a year and saving almost 18 thousand tons of reference fuel per year, improved the environment, increased maneuverability of the power grid, the reliability of heat and power supply to all kind of consumers. The power plant electrical capacity increased almost 2.5 times – from 21.2 to 47.7 MW.

REFERENCE:

Mogilev CHPP-1 is the oldest power plant in Mogilev Region. The first steam boiler with a capacity of 25 tons of steam per hour was put into operation on October 15, 1931, and in April 1933, a turbine unit with a capacity of 5 MW was launched. Lumpy peat served as fuel, supplied from the left bank of the Dnieper by cableway over two kilometers long.

During the Great Patriotic War, the power plant was destroyed. After the liberation of Mogilev, its restoration began. Over the years of its existence, the equipment of MCHPP-1 has been repeatedly upgraded, and the emergence of new technologies makes it possible to increase energy efficiency.
