ENERGAS gas compressor unit at Ufa CHPP-2 – 15 years of reliable fuel supply for the combined-cycle power unit CCGT-60

ENERGAS compressor unit (CU), commissioned on June 24, 2011, serves to compress and feed fuel gas to the turbine of combined-cycle plant.



The modular CU was made based on screw oil-filled compressor, operation mode as a part of the CCGT-60 is uninterrupted with scheduled shutdowns for maintenance. High-tech equipment ensures a high compression ratio: the minimum gas inlet pressure is 0.4 MPa, the maximum delivery pressure is 3.0 MPa (limited by the settings of Siemens SGT-800 gas turbine).

The maximum volume capacity of CU is 17,000 m3 / h. Gas flow rate depends on the dynamics of changes in the load of the CCGT, and is controlled in the range from 0 to 100% of nominal using a special two-circuit regulation system.

The first circuit (control by the compressor spool valve) provides smooth, stepless gas flow regulation in the range of 15 ... 100%. To control the capacity in the lower range 0 … 15%, the first circuit is combined with a gas recirculation system (second circuit), that allows the unit to respond quickly and correctly on a sharp change in load during transient operating modes of conjugated turbine.



The process flow scheme provides for the stable maintenance of the calculated fuel temperature. The delivery line of the compressor unit is equipped with a shell-and-tube heat exchanger that cools the working medium and ensures the optimum gas supply temperature (+60°C) set by the turbine manufacturer and design requirements.

The required parameters of the fuel gas in terms of purity are guaranteed by the multistage filtration system of CU: inlet protective strainer, gas-oil separator of the 1st stage of purification and coalescing (safety) filter of the 2nd stage. As a result, the content of impurities at the outlet does not exceed 1 ppmw (mg / kg).

Gas booster unit is housed in its own shelter of container type, equipped with life support systems. According to safety requirements, CU is equipped with fire detection, gas detection, alarm systems, fire-extinguishing systems.

Compressor unit is fully automated. Its control system (ACS), made based on microprocessor technology, is placed inside the block-module of CU – in the special compartment separated from the process part by gas-tight fire-resistant partition.

The local ACS is integrated into facility's APCS. It provides remote control of unit, automatic protections and alarm; monitors the process parameters of the CU and the gas contamination in the machine room; handles the parameters of the workflows and emergency events; issues information to the operator panel. Control from the upper level is carried out in full, similar to the control "in site".

The ENERGAS compressor unit began its work two months before the official launch of the combined-cycle plant. This allowed Ufa power engineers to conduct a full range of tests of the generating equipment and put the CCGT-60 into operation in a timely manner.



Ufa CHPP-2 is the first power plant in the power grid of Bashkortostan where combined-cycle technology was applied. Since 2011, the combined cycle gas turbine unit – CCGT with installed electrical capacity of 60 MW – has been operating here.

The structure of high-performance power generating unit comprises a SGT-800 gas turbine unit produced by Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery AB and a Russia's first licensed steam waste-heat boiler of two pressures manufactured by EMAlliance. This equipment is associated with the SST-300 steam turbine of Siemens and integrated into the system of thermal power output of CHPP.

REFERENCE:

The Ufa CHPP-2 is the second largest by capacity power plant (after Karmanovskaya SDPP) of Bashkir Generation Company (BGC) and at the same time it is the most powerful among the its CHPPs. Currently, installed electric capacity of CHPP-2 is 519 MW, thermal capacity is 1,528 Gcal / h. The power plant provides energy for about half of the housing stock of Ufa and the nearby industrial enterprises.

BGC LLC (part of PJSC Inter RAO) is one of the largest local energy companies of Russia, it owns large production base consisting of one SDPP, eleven CHPPs and TPPs, three HPPs and one wind farm.
