ENERGAS gas reduction unit for steam turbine power units of the Verkhny Tagil SDPP is equipped with a two-tier control system

10 July 2026

The complete two-tier automated control system is implemented on the basis of microprocessor technology using modern software, switching equipment, channels and protocols of communication.

The gas reduction unit (GRU) manufactured by ENERGAS is being integrated into the fuel supply structure of the Verkhny Tagil SDPP (Sverdlovsk Region). GRU is a block-modular process unit with a maximum capacity of 170,000 Nm3 / h. This equipment will reduce and stabilize the pressure of the fuel gas supplied to the power boilers of the steam turbine power units of the power plant.

Gas reduction unit is fully automated and, during operation, does not require additional manual adjustment for debugging the correct interaction of various systems, assemblies and components.

GRU is equipped with a complete two-tier control system, which is integrated into the facility’s automated process control system (APCS). The first tier, the local ACS, is housed inside the unit in a special compartment separated from the process part by a gas-tight fire-resistant partition. The second tier, the remote control (automated operator workstation), is located in the control room of the power plant.

The two-tier ACS will provide control of process workflows and auxiliary equipment of the GRU, monitoring of the unit's operating parameters and indoor gas pollution, automatic protections, alarm, and safe modes of operation, gathering, processing and visualization of data, and transmission of information to the upper level of the APCS.

The system is implemented on the basis of microprocessor technology using modern software, switching equipment, channels and protocols of communication. If the voltage is lost, the in-house uninterruptible power supply is able to support the autonomous operation of the software and hardware complex for a certain time.

Currently, as part of the commissioning of the gas reduction unit, ENERGAS service engineers have completed the adjustment and testing of the complete ACS.

REFERENCE:

The Verkhny Tagil State District Power Plant (JSC Inter RAO - Electric Power Plants), located in the center of the Middle Urals power grid, is one of the main electricity suppliers in the Sverdlovsk Region. The installed electric capacity of the plant is 1,062 MW, the thermal capacity is 240 Gcal / h. The SDPP generates approximately 5 billion kWh annually and also supplies heat to the city of Verkhny Tagil.
