After the factory testing, compressor station for the combined cycle gas turbine unit of MPEI CHPP has been delivered to the facility

CHPP of the National Research University "MPEI" (MPEI CHPP) is a unique facility, which at the same time serves for the training of students and covers the needs of the nearest residential district and gives about 50% of capacity into the urban network. This year marks 65 years since the commissioning of the plant.The purpose of CHPP upgrade is improving the scientific and educational potential of MPEI (TU) for the practical training of students of heat engineering, power engineering, electrical engineering specialties and perform research work in experimental-industrial conditions. The project will also increase the volume and reliability of power supply of the University and Lefortovo district of Moscow.
Project design was implemented by CJSC PIC UralTEP, general contractor is CJSC Rosengineering Energy. At the heart of upgrade there is the construction of modern combined cycle gas turbine unit (CCGT unit) with capacity of 10 MW.
CCGT unit is constructed on the basis of high-performance gas turbine unit (GTU) Kawasaki of type GPB80D with electric capacity of 7.5 MW. One of the advantages of the gas turbine unit is low level of emissions of CO2, which is very important, since CHPP is located among residential buildings and educational buildings of the University.
As a part of CCGT unit there are also a waste-heat boiler (Belenergomash) and a steam-turbine unit (STU) P-2.5/10.5-3.8/0.5 manufactured by OJSC KTP. The new STU with capacity of 2.5 MW will be installed in place of the old demounted steam turbine.
Combined cycle power unit is being equipped with booster compressor station (BCS) of fuel gas of the company ENERGAS. BCS has a capacity of 2,750 m3 / h and will supply gas with required parameters on purity and temperature to the GTU turbine under operating pressure in the range of 2.04...2.4 MPa.

BCS is a packaged unit in weatherproof sound-absorbing shelter. It is equipped with systems of working and emergency lighting; heating and ventilation; gas detection and fire fighting systems; individual oil feeding system; capacity regulation system.
The compressor station will operate in automatic mode; automated control system is placed inside BCS – in a compartment separated from the engine room by fire-resistant gas-tight flow deflector.
After successful completion of factory testing, which was implemented under the control of the customer – the representatives of CJSC Rosengineering Energy, BCS has been delivered to the site of operation. Equipment is supplied with a high degree of prefabrication and maximum integration of the all assemblies and components on a single frame what significantly reduces the duration of the construction and mounting works as well as pre-start activities.

The phased commissioning of the BCS of fuel gas, including erection supervision, start-up, individual testing as well as comprehensive verification of equipment as a part of CCGT unit will be performed by the LLC ServicENERGAS (companies group ENERGAS).
