The first ENERGAS project in electric power industry turned 15 years old
21 November 2022
In November 2007, ENERGAS commissioned a booster compressor station for the CCGT-120 combined cycle gas turbine unit operating as part of the Mezhdunarodnaya TPP (Moscow). For 15 years, this BCS has been feeding the turbines of the highly efficient power unit with gas fuel with specified parameters in terms of purity, temperature, pressure and flow rate.
The gas compressor station at Mezhdunarodnaya TPP is first ENERGAS project completed at the facilities of Russian electric power industry.
Among the priorities of the ENERGAS Group are production, comprehensive commissioning and maintenance of gas treatment and compression units for generating facilities. Today, the ENERGAS process equipment supplies high-quality fuel for 230 gas turbines and gas-reciprocating units with a total capacity of over 6.7 GW.
BCS consists of three packaged compressor units (CU), which function alternately – in 2+1 mode (two machines in operation, one in the hot-standby). Operating CUs fully provide the fuel consumption of the power unit, while the third machine is ready to be switched on by ATS (automatic transfer switch).
CUs made based on screw oil-filled compressors with a volume capacity of 18,000 m3 / h each. The actual gas flow rate depends on the load of the conjugated CCGT turbines and is controlled in the range from 0 to 100% of nominal. For control, a special two-tier capacity regulation system is applied.
The efficient compressor module of units gives a high gas compression ratio:
- Pressure at the suction is 0.25 MPa,
- Pressure at the delivery line is 3.1 MPa (limited by the settings of SGT-800 turbines).

The project requirements for the gas purity are ensured by the multistage filtration system of CU: inlet protective strainer, gas-oil separator of the 1st stage of purification and coalescing (safety) filter of the 2nd stage. Thus, compliance of the fuel with the set parameters is achieved: the content of impurities does not exceed 3 ppmw (mg / kg), the degree of purification from solid particles larger than 10 microns and liquid fraction is 100%.
The process flow scheme of BCS provides for the stable maintenance of the design fuel temperature. The delivery lines of the booster machines are equipped with heat exchangers which cool the working medium and guarantee the optimum gas supply temperature (+60°C) established by the turbines manufacturer (Siemens) and terms of the project.
Mezhdunarodnaya TPP is located in the center of the city, therefore compressor machines were designed and manufactured taking into account the specific standards for noise characteristics (sound pressure) of the equipment. CUs are placed in special sound-insulating enclosures, due to that all necessary norms are observed.
Process units are fully automated, their block-modules are equipped with life support systems (heating, ventilation, and lighting). According to safety requirements, each CU is equipped with fire detection, gas detection, alarm and fire extinguishing systems.

Mezhdunarodnaya TPP (LLC Cityenergo) was built for the life support of the Moscow International Business Center MIBC Moscow-City on the initiative of the Moscow Government. The construction of the power plant is the first investment project of independent generation in the capital.
TPP was created on the basis of a highly efficient and environmentally friendly combined-cycle technology. The station is located in the Presnensky district (only 6 km from the Kremlin) and is the most advanced, cost-effective and high-tech power facility in Moscow.
The design electric capacity is 236 MW, thermal capacity is 420 Gcal / h, efficiency factor is more than 50%. The capabilities of the TPP make it possible to continuously supply energy to both the MIBC and the adjacent residential areas of Krasnaya Presnya.
The history of the power plant dates back to November 10, 2007, when its 1st power unit, the combined cycle gas turbine unit with a capacity of 121 MW for electricity and 205 Gcal / h for heat, was put into operation.
CCGT-120 comprises two Siemens SGT-800 gas turbine units with a capacity of 45.6 MW each, two Alstom steam waste-heat boilers, and Siemens SST-700 cogeneration steam turbine (30 MW). A water-heating boiler KV-GM-151.2-150 with a productivity of 130 Gcal / h is used as the peak heat source.
2 years later, another combined-cycle plant, the CCGT-116 was put into operation here. In terms of equipment, power generating unit No. 2 is similar to CCGT-120 with a small difference in total electric capacity, which amounts to 116 MW.
