Booster compressor unit of fuel gas is put into operation at the new GTU-30 of Livny CHPP
12 December 2012
Reconstruction of Livny CHPP (Orel Region) is part of the large-scale investment program of OJSC Quadra for the renewal of generating equipment. For this project, a 30 MW gas turbine unit is created.
For the first time in half a century – since the launch of the power plant – the capacity of the CHPP will be significantly increased. Electricity generation will grow 5 times, which will significantly improve the reliability of the Livny energy center.
The new power generating unit is created on the basis of the LM2500+G4 gas turbine manufactured by General Electric and the waste-heat boiler of type KUP-55-3,9-440 produced by the Energomash plant in Belgorod. Because of the reconstruction, the annual electricity output of Livny CHPP will be more than 261 million kWh.
Compression and feeding of fuel gas to the turbine at working pressure of 3.7 MPa will be provided by a packaged booster compressor unit with capacity of 1,000 m3 / h.
The BCU is housed in its own sound-absorbing shelter, operates in an automatic mode, equipped with life support and safety systems. The high degree of factory readiness of the equipment has allowed reducing to a minimum the terms of the mounting and start-up and adjustment works. The supply and preparation of BCU for operation were performed by ENERGAS.
The unit passed operability check in the course of integrated tests of gas-turbine power unit, which ended on December 11th. During 72-hour testing, the BCU worked out in a routine mode, without any complaints.

REFERENCE. Livny CHPP is the most important life support facility in the city of Livny, the second largest in the Orel region. In December 1958, the first boiler unit and turbine generator were commissioned at the station. In March 1959, the second stage of the CHPP was commissioned. By December 1960, the plant reached its designed capacity. In 1962, Livny CHPP was included in the unified power system of the European part of the country.
