Compressor station at BPS-3 of the North-Labatyugan field – 15 year of rational recovery of associated gas
19 January 2026
Since January 2011, a booster compressor station for associated petroleum gas has been operating at the North-Labatyugan field (BPS-3 area) of Surgutneftegas. BCS of the hangar type is located at the site of GTPP-36 gas turbine power plant and consists of six compressor units which housed in two separate buildings.
The units (CUs), supplied and commissioned by ENERGAS Company, are made based on screw oil-filled compressors. The unit capacity of the CU amounts to 10,000 m3 / h; gas flow is controlled by a special two-level regulation system. Operation mode as part of the facility of oil and gas production complex is nonstop with scheduled shutdowns for maintenance.
The project is notable for the fact that the BCS ensures the rational use of associated petroleum gas here, while simultaneously solving different tasks:
- Three units purify APG coming from the gas gathering facility, compress and feed it to GTPP-36 turbines;
- Three other CUs, after filtering, inject gas into the pipeline for transportation to GTPP of other fields.
Process equipment guarantees a high compression ratio: the APG inlet pressure is 0.2 MPa, the outlet pressure is 2.7 MPa.
The purification of gas (two-step removal of liquid fraction and solid particles) entering the compressors is carried out by highly efficient coalescing filters-scrubbers with automatic drainage system.
The delivery line of each CU is equipped with a shell-and-tube heat exchanger (with a built-in separator and a condensate collector), which cools the compressed APG, removes the resulting condensate and maintains the calculated temperature of the gas fuel set by the design requirements.
BCS is fully automated. The local control systems of compressor units are tied using the group regulation function and integrated with the upper level of the facility's APCS. The joint ACS provides remote control of equipment, automatic protections and alarm; monitors the process parameters and gas pollution in the machine rooms of the BCS; handles the parameters of the workflows and emergency events; issues information to the operator panel.

REFERENCE:
Pilot North-Labatyugan field exploitation began in 2004. Introducing innovative technologies of oil production, Surgutneftegas immediately became concerned with the recovery of APG by generating electricity. The first GTPP with a capacity of 24 MW was commissioned here in 2007. The start-up in 2011 of the second phase - GTPP with a capacity of 36 MW - allowed to fully meeting the needs of the field.
GTPP-36, located at the site of booster pump station No. 3, operates in a simple cycle. It consists of three power units produced by Sumy NPO. Each power unit is based on a NK-16ST gas turbine (KMPO) with a rated capacity of 12 MW and an efficiency of 29%.
REFERENCE:
The North-Labatyugan oil field is located in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area. Its development is carried out by Nizhnesortymskneft OGPD, the northernmost Oil and Gas Production Department of PJSC Surgutneftegas. The peculiarities of the enterprise include oil production in difficult, unique conditions of the marshland. Today OGPD develops about a third of all Surgutneftegas fields. The main part of the reserves is low-permeability oil deposits.
