GTU-CHPP at the Central CHPP of St. Petersburg – 5 years of efficient generating for residents of the Northern capital

5 December 2021

Since December 2016, the modern GTU-CHPP on the basis of two power generating units has been operating at the site of power plant No. 1 of Central CHPP in St. Petersburg. Each power unit consists of a Siemens SGT-800 gas turbine unit (GTU) and a waste-heat boiler. The unit capacity of gas turbines is 50 MW. These are the most productive of all SGT-800 power sets operating in Russia.

The Siemens SGT-800 industrial gas turbine units combine robust design, high efficiency and low emissions. Turbines can operate on different types of fuel and in various operating conditions. GTUs have high exhaust energy, which allows them to be effectively applied in the cogeneration and combined cycles. Currently, there are over the 370 SGT-800 units in the world with capacity from 47.5 to 57 MW. Their total operating time is more than 7 million equivalent hours of operation with a reliability index of 99.8+.

Total electrical capacity of GTU-CHPP is 100 MW, thermal – 100 Gcal / h. Launch of highly efficient gas turbines allowed to close a number of old boiler houses in the Northern Capital. New generating equipment has increased the quality and reliability of power supply for the central part of the city and significantly reduced fuel consumption per unit of electricity and heat generating.

Purification, compressing and supply fuel gas to the turbines of GTU-CHPP under operating pressure of 3.3 MPa are provided by the special process equipment: gas treatment unit and booster compressor station (BCS).

ENERGAS BCS is composed of three compressor units with capacity of 9,558 kg / h each. The units are placed in weatherproof enclosures equipped with life support and safety systems. The gas booster units are equipped with individual ACSs and group system of automated control with the function of transmitting data to APCS of upper level, as well as with two-level systems of capacity regulation.

REFERENCE:

Central CHPP combines the oldest stations of St. Petersburg. CHPP provides electricity and heat to industrial enterprises, residential and public buildings of the Central, Moscow, Frunze and Admiralties districts of the city. In the service area of CHPP – about 500 thousand people.
