GTPP at the South-Khylchuyu field has reached its full capacity
27 June 2009
With commissioning of the last, fifth power generating unit, the construction of a 125 MW gas turbine power plant at the site of Central Production Facility of the South-Khylchuyu oil and gas field was completed. Object owner is Naryanmarneftegas LLC (a subsidiary of LUKOIL OJSC). General designer is NPP Energoperspektiva.
The power supply complex "South Khylchuyu" is created on the basis of five SGT-600 gas turbine units (GTU) manufactured by Siemens with a capacity of 25 MW. The main equipment also includes five waste-heat boilers, two peak water-heating boilers and two emergency diesel-generator units.
The high-efficiency GTPP has become the center of the local (autonomous) power system, which provides electricity supply to the oil-extracting infrastructure and has replaced several gas reciprocating power plants with low capacity. Power generating units operate by desulfurized associated petroleum gas. The project also provides for the possibility of operating turbines by natural gas (reserve fuel) and diesel fuel of arctic kind (emergency fuel). At the same time, the technology allows to switch from one type of fuel to another without shutting down GTU.
Treatment of gas and its supply to the turbines are carried out by the booster compressor station of the hangar type. As part of the BCS, there are four compressor units (CU) with a maximum capacity of 14,000 m3 / h, capable of injecting pressure to the required working level of 2.7 MPa.

In addition to the compressor module, each CU is equipped with a pre-filtering module (two-stage filter-scrubber) and a system for maintaining the design temperature of gas feeding. All CUs are automated; local ACSs are linked into a group control system integrated with the APCS of the power supply complex. The capacity of the compressor units is controlled by a two-level regulation system.
As a result, BCS provides the established parameters of fuel gas in terms of purity, temperature, and pressure and flow rate. The whole pre-start cycle (erection supervision, adjustment, tests) was performed by ENERGAS specialists.
REFERENCE. The field of South Khylchuyu was put into commercial operation in the June 2008. It is being developed by the Naryanmarneftegas in cooperation with ConocoPhillips. In 2009 it is planned to produce 7.5 million tons of oil. The field is connected by an oil pipeline with the Varandey terminal (the coast of the Pechora Sea). The terminal capacity of the Varandey terminal is 12 million tons of oil per year.
A feature of the South-Khylchuyu field is the high content of hydrogen sulfide in oil and associated petroleum gas. In the composition of APG, the volume fraction of hydrogen sulfide is about 2.5%. To use APG for production needs of field the its preliminary treatment is being implemented here.
