The ENERGAS gas compressor unit at Livny CHPP has been reliably supplying the GTU-30 power unit with fuel for ten years
2 January 2023
In December 2012, ENERGAS commissioned a booster compressor unit (CU) for the GTU-30 cogeneration power unit operating as part of the Livny CHPP of PJSC Quadra. For 10 years, this CU has been feeding the turbine of the highly efficient power unit with gas fuel with specified parameters in terms of purity, temperature, pressure and flow rate.
The gas compressor unit operates without a backup, fully providing the fuel consumption of the generating facility. At the same time, the operation mode of the booster machine as part of the GTU-30 is uninterrupted with scheduled shutdowns for maintenance.
CU made based on screw oil-filled compressor with a volume capacity of 10,000 m3 / h each. The actual gas flow rate depends on the load of the conjugated turbine and is controlled in the range from 0 to 100% of nominal. For control, a special two-tier capacity regulation system is applied.
The efficient compressor module of unit gives a high gas compression ratio:
- Pressure at the suction is 0.45 MPa,
- Pressure at the delivery line is 3.7 MPa (limited by the settings of LM2500+G4 turbine).

The project requirements for the gas purity are ensured by the multistage filtration system of CU: inlet protective strainer, oil-gas separator of the 1st stage of purification and coalescing (safety) filter of the 2nd stage. Thus, compliance of the fuel with the set parameters is achieved: the content of impurities does not exceed 2 ppmw (mg / kg), the degree of purification from solid particles larger than 10 microns and liquid fraction is 100%.
The process flow scheme of CU provides for the stable maintenance of the design fuel temperature. The delivery line of the booster machine is equipped with heat exchanger which cools the working medium and guarantees the optimum gas supply temperature (+60°C) established by the turbine manufacturer (GE Energy) and terms of the project.
The unit is fully automated, placed in its own weatherproof enclosure of container type, equipped with life support systems (heating, ventilation, and lighting). According to safety requirements, CU is equipped with fire detection, gas detection, alarm and fire extinguishing autonomous systems.
ENERGAS compressor unit of fuel gas was commissioned two months before the official launch of the gas-turbine power unit. This allowed Quadra's power engineers to carry out a full range of pre-start activities and tests of the generating equipment and put the GTU-30 into operation in a timely manner.
REFERENCE:
The power unit with a capacity of 30 MW was built on Livny CHPP reconstruction project – as a part of the large-scale investment program of PJSC Quadra for the renewal of generating equipment.
Electricity is generated by gas turbine unit (GTU) based on a GE Energy turbine of LM2500+G4 DLE type and a Brush generator. Turbine is equipped with combustion chamber with a system for dry suppression of emissions (DLE technology), what minimizes the entry of harmful substances into the atmosphere – nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon monoxide (CO).
GTU is conjugated with a KUP-55-3.9-440 waste-heat boiler (Energomash Plant, Belgorod), which, due to the heat of the turbine exhaust gases, produces high-potential process steam.
As a result, the cogeneration cycle provides combined energy production, high efficiency of gas fuel use, environmental friendliness and cost-effectiveness of the facility.
The power unit is located in the city boundaries and fully complies with the established requirements for the level of environmental pollution and noise impact.
Livny CHPP is the most important life support facility in the city of Livny, the second largest in the Orel Region. At present, the electric capacity of the station is 36 MW, the thermal capacity is 221.7 Gcal / h.

REFERENCE:
Among the priorities of the ENERGAS Group are production, comprehensive commissioning and maintenance of gas treatment and compression units for generating facilities in the electric power industry, oil and gas complex and industrial enterprises. The ENERGAS process equipment today provides high-quality fuel for 230 gas turbines and gas-reciprocating units with a total capacity of over 6.7 GW.
