ENERGAS has shipped three gas receiving stations for the Belarusian peak-standby energy sources
24 December 2021
A large-scale project is being implemented in the Republic of Belarus to create peak-standby energy sources (PSES) based on Siemens SGT-800 gas turbine units. The PSESs are being built at the sites of existing thermal power plants of the RUE Minskenergo, Brestenergo and Vitebskenergo.At the Minsk CHPP-5 will operate gas turbine power plant (GTPP) with a capacity of 300 MW consisting of 6 gas turbines SGT-800, at the Berezovskaya SDPP – GTPP-254MW (5 turbines), at the Lukomlskaya SDPP – GTPP-150MW (3 turbines), at the Novopolotsk CHPP – GTPP-100MW (2 turbines). It is assumed that the operating time of each PSES will be approximately 700 hours per year and up to 350 starts from the cold state.
Being in the mode of continued readiness to launch, the facilities will maintain, if necessary, the balance of generation and consumption of electricity. The generating equipment of the GTPP is characterized by high maneuverability – it will take less than 15 minutes to responsively start it and fill the deficit in the power grid.
New capacities are aimed at increasing the reliability and flexibility of the Belarusian power grid. Gas-turbine power units will be used as a reserve both for the existing infrastructure and for future wind, solar and nuclear power plants. The commissioning of PSESs will contribute to the decarbonization of the economy and the transition to a new energy structure in country.
Under a contract with Siemens Energy AB, the Russian Company ENERGAS is equipping the PSESs with four gas receiving stations (GRS) – one for each peak GTPP. Stations are the gas treatment stations providing the design parameters of the fuel before its feeding into turbines of power generating units.
GRSs will be installed on supply pipelines for purification, flow measurement and heating of entering gas. The throughput of process units is from 29,210 to 87,506 m3 / h. The main elements of GRS are following:
- Filtration system with efficiency of 99.9% for particles larger than 10 microns;
- Gas heating module based on a shell-and-tube heat exchanger;
- Condensate gathering and storage subassembly with underground drainage tank;
- Gas commercial metering unit with a relative error of no more than 1.5%;
- Fuel quality control subassembly.

Gas receiving stations are placed in their own enclosures and are equipped with necessary engineering systems, including life support systems (heating, ventilation and lighting) and safety (fire detection, gas detection, alarm and fire fighting). GRSs are fully automated; control will be carried out from the upper level of the automated process control systems of power plants.
At present, three GRSs have been shipped from production site and are being transported to the Berezovskaya SDPP, Minsk CHPP-5 and Lukomlskaya SDPP. The equipment is supplied in maximum factory readiness (after preliminary workshop tests) what further significantly reduces the duration of the construction and mounting works and pre-start activities.

Earlier ENERGAS shipped the gas receiving station and end system of filtration for the PSES of the Novopolotsk CHPP.
