BCS of fuel gas for the gas turbine unit of Aktobe CHPP successfully underwent factory tests

27 November 2020

In the Republic of Kazakhstan, a project for the upgrade (enlargement) of the Aktobe CHPP is being implemented using gas turbine technologies. A cogeneration GTU is being built here on the basis of an SGT-800 gas turbine (Siemens) with an electric capacity of 57 MW and a waste-heat boiler (Machine-Building Factory of Podolsk) with a steam capacity of 70 t / h.

The new power generating unit will be integrated into process flow scheme of CHPP to operate in a combined cycle – the waste-heat boiler will generate medium-pressure steam to electricity producing by the existing steam turbines. This significantly increases the overall efficiency of gas fuel use.

The fuel supply for power unit will be performed by the ENERGAS gas treatment system – a block-type gas treatment station (BGTS) and a booster compressor station (BCS) of two units. BGTS is intended to filtration, pressure reducing and technological metering gas before its feeding into BCS. Compressor station will ensure the design fuel parameters for turbine – in terms of pressure (3.1 MPa), temperature (+60°C) and flow rate (12,000 kg / h).

Currently, BCS underwent factory tests before shipment. The operability of process, compressor, measuring and analytical, and electrical equipment has been checked. The local ACS, oil system, valves actuation, integrity of cable lines, and pressure-tightness of assemblies and joints of both gas booster units were tested.

Preparation is underway for station transportation to the Aktobe CHPP operation site. The units are supplied with a high degree of prefabrication and a maximum integration of the components on a single frame what subsequently significantly reduces the duration of the mounting works and pre-start activities.
