In the framework of the long-term service contract there was carried out comprehensive maintenance of BCS for the 5th power unit of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk CHPP-1

The ENERGAS Group actively develops a Program on the provision of long-term maintenance services. There was signed a number of the long-term contracts (up to 36 months) for post-warranty maintenance of gas treatment and compression units. Such contracts are concluded with regard to equipment of own production and to equipment of other manufacturers and suppliers.

An illustrative example of the implementation of this Program is the comprehensive maintenance of fuel supply equipment for the 4th and 5th power units of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk CHPP-1, the largest energy source in the Sakhalin Region.

For seven years now, service activities have been carried out here on the gas treatment unit and on five two-stage compressor units (CU). Scheduled works are performed according to the schedule coordinated with the customer – every 4,000 hours of operating time.

At present there is completed regular routine maintenance of the booster compressor station at the 5th power unit. BCS supplied by the company ENERGAS compresses and feeds fuel gas to the turbines at the required operating pressure of 5 MPa. BCS is composed of two packaged units of screw type; capacity of each is 14,300 m3 / h.

In two-stage units there is used high technology of gas compression in two steps without interim cooling. This allows the BCS stably operate over the entire range of the suction pressure changing, regardless of the feeding line.

CUs are placed in separate all-weather shelters; they are equipped with automated control systems with the function of transmitting data to APCS of upper level, as well as with two-level systems of capacity control (bypass line and spool regulation).

Since BCS commissioning, the operating time of compressor unit No. 1 has ranged 36,000 hours; the operating time of CU-2 is 32,000 hours. The following service activities were performed:
  • Replacement of consumables (gas and oil filters, oil in the bearings of the motors);
  • Check the alignment of rotating units (compressors and motors);
  • Gaps measure and checking the status of the internal components of the compressors;
  • Adjustment and calibration of position sensors and positioning of valves and hydraulic controllers;
  • Functional tests of the oil system and cooling system of the compressor units;
  • Verification of operational parameters of the BCS and their adjustment;
  • Troubleshooting; issuing recommendations on components replacement.

The works were carried out with sequential switching off of compressor units, what provides non-stop operation of the whole BCS and accordingly power generating unit of power plant.

REFERENCE. Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk CHPP-1 provides electricity to 60% of the Sakhalin Region's population, including the regional center – the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, home to almost a third of the region's population. The 5th power generating unit of power plant was put into operation in August 2012; the 4th power unit – in October 2013.

The main equipment of 5th power unit is two LM6000 PF Sprint gas turbines (General Electric) with total electrical capacity of 91.2 MW and hot-water waste-heat boilers. The fuel is natural gas.
