The combined cycle gas turbine unit CCGT-225 at Syzran CHPP – 10 year of efficient operation

18 October 2022

The Volzhsky Agate combined-cycle plant, created under the Diadem investment program of the T Plus Group (formerly IES Holding), is one of the most efficient and technologically advanced facilities of a new generating in the Middle Volga.

Syzran CHPP of the Samara branch of T Plus PJSC is the main source of electricity and heat supply for industrial consumers and the population of the city of Syzran and the Syzran area.

The milestone event in the history of the CHPP was the launch in October 2012 of a new power unit called Volzhsky Agate. This power unit, created on the basis of a combined cycle gas turbine unit (CCGT) with a capacity of 225 MW, brought the plant to a fundamentally new level:

- Electrical capacity has doubled;
- Heat output has increased;
- Efficiency factor has raised;
- Specific fuel consumption has decreased;
- Emissions of nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide into the atmosphere have been reduced.

Overall, the upgrade of Syzran CHPP has increased its economic and environmental efficiency. The implementation of the project, which at that time became the largest energy construction in the Samara Region in 30 years, made it possible to decommission the fleet of obsolete turbines of the power plant and eliminate more than 50 unprofitable city boiler houses. The capacities of CCGT-225 reduced the energy shortage and ensured the development of new industrial productions in the region.

Combined-cycle plant is equipped with equipment with high technical indicators. The main generation is provided by two PG6111FA gas turbine units (GTU) with a rated capacity of 80 MW each.

Syzran CHPP is the first Russian power facility where GE gas turbines of 6F family (6F.03, Frame 6FA, PG6111FA) were used.

GTUs are conjugated with an IEG waste-heat boilers which produce high-potential process steam using the heat of the turbines exhaust gases. The resulting superheated steam enters the Siemens SST-600 turbo unit with a capacity of 75 MW for secondary electricity generation (combined cycle).

The supply of the CCGT-225 with fuel with the specified design parameters in terms of purity, temperature (up to +90°C), pressure (3.4 MPa) and flow rate (up to 60,000 m3 / h) is carried out by the ENERGAS multifunctional system – a block-type gas treatment station and a compressor station consisting of three gas booster units.

The Volzhsky Agate power unit, constructed as part of the Diadem investment program of the T Plus Group (formerly IES Holding), became one of the most efficient and technologically advanced facilities of a new generating in the Middle Volga and has practically set new standards for energy productions.

REFERENCE:

Syzran CHPP is one of the oldest in the structure of T Plus PJSC. December 31, 1947 – the date of launch of the first turbo generator of the power plant, which became the first in Europe to operate on oil shale. After 45 years, it was decided to abandon this fuel in favor of more efficient and environmentally friendly fuels, primarily natural gas. At present, the installed capacity of the CHPP amounts to 372.4 MW for electricity and 613 Gcal / h for heat.

REFERENCE:

Among the priorities of the ENERGAS Group are production, comprehensive commissioning and maintenance of gas treatment and compression units for generating facilities in the electric power industry, oil and gas complex and industrial enterprises. Today, the ENERGAS process equipment provides high-quality fuel for 230 gas turbines and gas-reciprocating units with a total capacity of over 6.7 GW.
