At the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk CHPP-1, the 5-th power unit – GTU with the capacity of 91.2 MW has been commissioned

The collective of RAO Energy Systems of the East fulfilled its obligations to Sakhalin residents: on the eve of the autumn-winter period, the 5-th power unit of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk CHPP-1 put into operation.

The basis of the new power unit is gas turbine unit (GTU). As a part of GTU there are two high-performance gas turbines LM6000 PF Sprint manufactured by General Electric (total electric capacity of 91.2 MW).



The fuel for GTU is natural gas. The required gas quality is provided by the gas treatment system of ENERGAS which comprises booster compressor station and block-type gas treatment unit.

Booster compressor station is composed of two packaged compressor units (CU) of screw type. CUs with unit capacity of 14,300 m3 / h perform compressing and supply gas to the GTU turbines under operating pressure of 5 MPa.

In two-stage CU there is used high technology of gas compression in two stages without intercooling. This allows the compressor station stably operate over the entire range of the suction pressure changing, regardless of the feeding line.

CUs are placed in separate all-weather shelters; they are equipped with automated control systems with the function of transmitting data to APCS of upper level, as well as with two-level systems of capacity control (bypass line and spool regulation).



Block-type gas treatment unit (BGTU), manufactured by the LLC BelgorodENERGAS, implements flow measurement and filtration of gas. Capacity is 26,000 m3 / h.

BGTU is equipped with gas metering station and high-efficient separation system. The degree of gas purification from condensed moisture and solids larger than 10 microns rises to 99.98%. There is provided possibility of quick replacement of filtering elements.

Block-type unit is placed in sound- and heat-insulated module with maximum integration of the equipment on a single frame. It operates in automatic mode; it is equipped with life support systems (heating, ventilation and lighting) and safety systems (fire detection and fire fighting, gas detection).



Supply of process equipment for the treatment of gas fuel, as well as the entire complex of pre-start operations, including mounting supervision, adjustment and testing, were conducted by specialists of the Russian company ENERGAS.

The commissioning of the 5-th (and then the 4-th) power generating unit of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk CHPP-1 will increase the efficiency of the plant to 50% (currently the efficiency of CHPP-1 is 34-36%). The appearance of a new generation allows us already now to gradually take out of service the obsolete capacities of the Sakhalin SDPS, create the necessary reserve capacity to cover peak loads, quality planning and repairs in the Sakhalin power grid, connect additional consumers.

Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk CHPP-1 is a part of OJSC Sakhalinenergo (a subsidiary of RAO Energy Systems of the East). The plant is the largest energy source in the Sakhalin region; it provides electricity to 60% of the region's population, including the regional center – the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, home to almost a third of the region's population.
