Russia's gas power industry grows with the capacity of the new power unit at Syzran CHPP

3 October 2012

On October 2, 2012 in a solemn atmosphere, the combined cycle power unit of Syzran CHPP was put into operation. The installed electric capacity of the CCGT is 225 MW; the thermal capacity is 110 Gcal / h.

The event marks the completion of the project "Volzhsky Agate" from the investment program "Diadem", implemented by IES Holding. More than 100 Russian and foreign contractors and subcontractors – manufacturers of generating and process equipment, builders, installers, power engineers participated in creation of combined cycle gas turbine unit of the last generation.

The launch of the new power unit has become a worthy gift for the anniversary of Syzran CHPP, celebrating its 65-th anniversary this year. Over the past 30 years, this is the largest project to update the generating capacity of the power grid of the Samara region.

The basis of CCGT-225 consists of two gas turbine units Frame 6FA (PG6111) produced by GE (80 MW electric capacity), a steam-turbine unit Siemens SST PAC 600 (75 MW), and two waste-heat boilers of the Slovak Istorenergo Group. A new cooling tower has been built. Modern equipment significantly increased the power and energy efficiency of the whole CHPP.

Fuel for CCGT is natural gas. The necessary quality and uninterrupted supply of fuel to the turbines is provided by the ENERGAS gas treatment system, which includes a booster compressor station and a block-type gas treatment unit (BGTU).

BGTU performs gas flow metering and filtration. The capacity is 60,000 m3 / h.

The block-type GTU is equipped with a gas metering station and a highly efficient separation system. The degree of gas purification from mechanical impurities and droplet moisture (larger than 10 μm) reaches 99.98%. It is provided the possibility of quick replacement of the filter elements.

After preliminary treatment, the gas flow is directed to the booster compressor station. BCS includes three packaged compressor units (CU) of screw type. CUs with a unit capacity of 11,700 m3 / h compress gas to the required operating pressure of 3.4 MPa and feed it to the CCGT turbines.

CUs are placed inside all-weather, sound-insulating modules; they are equipped with automated control systems with data transfer function on APCS of the upper level, two-level capacity control systems (bypass line and spool regulation).

The supply of process equipment for the fuel gas treatment was fulfilled by the Russian company ENERGAS. Specialists of LLC ServicENERGAS (ENERGAS Group) carried out the whole complex of prestart works, including erection supervision, adjustment and testing.

In addition, two air compressor stations (ACS) of the ERG-ACSI-36/2-40/2 type operate on the site of the new combined cycle power unit. They supply compressed, dry and clean air to pneumatic actuators, valves, regulators, CCGT pneumatic tools. The ACSs include 4 compressor units, adsorption dryers, and ultrafine filters.

ACSs are placed in separate enclosures; they operate in automatic mode, equipped with safety, life support, noise- and thermal-insulation systems.

REFERENCE. Syzran CHPP – a branch of OJSC Volga Territorial Generating Company – provides electricity and heat supply to industrial consumers and population of Syzran city and Syzran District (Samara region).

December 31, 1947 – the date of launch of the first turbine-generator of Syzran CHPP, which became the first shale station in Europe. Before the CCGT-225 was commissioned, the electric capacity of the power plant was 255 MW; the thermal power was 1,229.3 Gcal / h.

The commissioning of new capacities is the possibility of supplying heat to the Central District of Syzran, which will improve the city's ecology by decommissioning more than 50 small inefficient boiler houses, the cost of heat of which is 2-5 times higher than the cost of heat energy the CHPP.
