Trouble-free operating time of fuel gas compressor station for the GTU of Chelyabinsk CHPP-1 exceeded 50 thousand hours

Booster compressor station, which was supplied and commissioned by the company ENERGAS, performs compression of fuel gas and its feeding to the gas-turbine power generating unit under required operating pressure of 2.8 MPa. BCS is composed of two compressor units (CU) of screw type with capacity of 14,650 m3 / h each.



CUs are placed in separate weatherproof shelters with maximum integration of the elements on a single frame and equipped with life support and safety systems. Units are equipped with individual ACS and group-technology cell of automated control system with the function of transmitting data to upper level of APCS, as well as with two-level systems of gas flow rate control.

Thanks to the use of a multi-stage filtration system, the gas at the outlet meets the highest requirements on purity. The process flow diagram of the CU also provides for a stable maintenance of the design fuel feeding temperature to turbines.



At the end of June, the compressor station underwent comprehensive maintenance. At the moment of maintenance, the operating time of each unit was more than 52,000 hours. Range of scheduled works has been performed by the specialists of ServicENERGAS (part of ENERGAS Group).

The power generating unit based on two GE MS6001B gas turbines with rated capacity of 44 MW each was launched at the Chelyabinsk CHPP-1 of PJSC Fortum in September 2014. Turbines are integrated with steam power equipment of power plant and they operate in unified process mode. All the production processes are automated as much as possible. The total electrical capacity of GTU is 83.8 MW.



Transition to a combined cycle has become the most important part of the comprehensive upgrading of ChCHPP-1. Subsequently, a phased withdrawal of outdated main and auxiliary equipment of the main building of the power plant was carried out. In 2016, the construction of a backup gas pipeline was completed to improve the reliability of the CHPP operation.

To date, the power plant is fully switched to the use of natural gas as the main fuel. Its efficiency due to the using of gas turbines, waste-heat boilers, and steam turbines has grown to 50%. The installed electrical capacity of ChCHPP-1 is 133.8 MW; thermal capacity is 827.1 MW.

Chelyabinsk CHPP-1 was commissioned in January 18, 1942. All 78 years of its operation history, the power plant is one of the main sources of energy for the capital of Southern Ural and provides over 20% of the heat duty of the city. Thanks to the comprehensive upgrade, the veteran plant has reached a modern level of energy efficiency. At that harmful emissions into the environment were significantly reduced.
