Compressor equipment for GTU on the example of CCGT unit of TPP "Moscow City"
Reliable operation of a gas turbine power plant of a simple and cogeneration type or combined-cycle gas-turbine unit is impossible without an efficient and reliable fuel gas treatment system. Implementing energy projects, it is important in time, with a view to the future, to choose equipment that allows stable, low cost, provide modern complexes of industrial, office and residential buildings with electricity and heat with the most efficient use of the energy received.
Successfully solving the problem of fuel gas treatment at GTPP in large cities and in small settlements is achieved by the possibilities of process equipment produced by the Swiss holding company ENERPROJECT group. In Russia, considerable experience in the erection and commissioning of such equipment has been accumulated by the company ENERGAS.
Since 2005, when the first two booster compressor units for GTU of Belgorod CHPP “Luch” delivered to Russia have been put into operation (in the photo below), the service engineers of ENERGAS provide complete technical support of the equipment, including warranty and post-warranty service.

To date, the geography of supply and operation of equipment covers most of the Russian territory - from the western borders (Belgorod and Kursk regions), through the European and Northern part of the country, deepening to the East - to the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area, up to the Talakanskoye field of the Republic of Sakha.
The experience was acquired both in the training center of the manufacturing company in Switzerland and in the factories manufacturing the component parts for the main equipment in Germany and Italy. But the most invaluable practical skills were obtained during commissioning works on dozens of different facilities commissioned in Russia.
In order to ensure full coverage of all projects implemented and provision of equipment maintenance services at the maximum customer-friendly conditions, service centers with spare parts stores in Moscow, Surgut have been established in ENERGAS. In each of these cities are based brigades of service engineers who provide consulting support in the 24/7 mode (24 hours a day, 7 days a week).
If necessary, the company's specialists are ready to arrive promptly, as soon as possible, to the site for technical work. In addition, there is a department at the company's central office, which prepares documentation on booster compressor units in Russian, including instructions, operating manuals, and the entire set of equipment passports in accordance with RF norms and standards.
Thus, all conditions have been created for the use of ENERPROJECT gas booster compression equipment in various projects of autonomous energy and heat supply of complexes of office and commercial buildings, cottage settlements, oil and gas fields and facilities, etc.
One example of a successful solution of such an important task in all its aspects (technological, economic, environmental) is the implementation of an individual project for the use of gas booster compressor units of ENERPROJECT for power supply of the complex of office buildings of the Moscow International Business Center MIBC "Moscow City" (at the picture below).
TPP of MIBC is located in the Central Administrative District of Moscow. That's what caused that the project of this station contains a highly efficient, environmentally friendly gas-cycle technology based on GTU SGT-800 Siemens, designed to generate in the basic mode of electrical and thermal energy.
The annual useful supply of electricity is more than 1.5 billion kWh. The heat received by the generation of electricity (up to 4 thousand Gcal per day and more than 800 thousand Gcal per year) goes to heating networks for heating office and industrial premises and residential buildings.
Natural gas is main and reserve fuel of TPP. The peculiarity of this project is supply of the addressable consumer - MIBC "Moscow City" - with electric power both with 110 kV voltage and with cable lines - 20 kV.
Three ENERPROJECT BCUs were installed to supply fuel gas to gas turbine plants of the 2nd stage of TPP “Mezhdunarodnaya”. The equipment had a modular design and was delivered in the maximum prefabrication. As a result, after the installation of compressor units on the foundation, all the works on erection supervision and commissioning, with putting into operation, took no more than a month and a half.
The following tasks were assigned to the equipment supplier:
- The equipment after assembly is factory tested, during which all basic elements are checked, including the oil system and the main components of the unit, cable lines; valve actuation, automatic control system testing, density and leak testing;
- For the erection and commissioning of compressor units, the customer will need to do a minimum amount of work (foundation, supply voltage, connection of gas pipelines);
- BCUs are fully automated and do not require additional manual adjustment for debugging the correct interaction of various equipment systems;
- Work is carried out by highly qualified service engineers.
As already noted, TPP "Mezhdunarodnaya" is located in the center of the city. Therefore booster compressor units were designed and manufactured taking into account the requirements of Russian standards on noise characteristics of the units. BCU has a special soundproof cover, so that all the necessary standards are observed.

The site for the BCS was of limited dimensions, but thanks to the compact design (all equipment on a single frame), including the control compartment separated from the process part by a gas-tight partition, and the location of the ACU system on the roof of the unit, it was possible to "fit" into limited area.
Modern turbine manufacturers make high requirements on the purity of gaseous fuels, the presence of liquid and solid particles in it. BCS is created on the basis of screw oil-filled compressors with the use of a reliable multi-stage gas filtration system, thanks to which the fuel at the outlet of the BCS corresponds to the required parameters.
To provide fuel to the GTU, two booster systems are sufficient, but to increase the reliability and protect the station shutdown capabilities due to an accident, the third BCU is in hot standby mode. If the unit fails, the standby compressor goes to full capacity in less than 40 seconds, and the gas pressure in the discharge system does not drop to the critical level. In the hot standby mode, the compressor system is filled with gas, the oil system is functioning, so the start-up time of the standby unit is shortened.
For a stable discharge pressure in all modes of operation of a gas turbine engine, the capacity in the BCS is adjustable in the range from 0 to 100%. This is provided by the compressor slide valve, as well as an additional bypass line, which allows operation even in the absence of gas flow. Due to the automatic regulation of these two systems, the pulsation of gas at the outlet of the unit is excluded, and therefore no additional receivers are required after the BCS. This leads to savings in areas and financial costs.
Inlet pressure of the compressor unit is 0.15 MPa (abs.), outlet pressure is 3.0 MPa (abs.). The overall capacity of the BCS is 18,000 m3 / h. The scheme of work is the following: two units operate in the basic mode in parallel to the main line, one is in standby.
As a part of compressor units there are used oil-filled screw compressors of Grasso (Germany). The block modules have climatic modification UHL1, they are provided with all necessary life support systems: heating, ventilation of both the process room and the control room, as well as gas detection, fire detection and fire extinguishing systems based on CO2.
The cooling system ensures reliable operation of the equipment in the temperature range -40 ... + 40 ° C. The BCS is controlled from the central control panel of the combined-cycle power plant.
At the end of the warranty for equipment between ENERGAS and TPP “Mezhdunarodnaya”, a post-warranty maintenance contract was concluded. Currently, the specialists of the Moscow office of the company perform the full range of necessary works.
